Veronica Kendall
My work reimagines the decorative traditions of Pre-Columbian and African art. I draw particular inspiration from the bold geometric patterns of mud cloth from Mali and the abstract textile designs of the Congo. My ceramics bring these historic patterns into a contemporary setting, translating them into sculptural forms that highlight both heritage and innovation. While my vessels share a consistent design language, every piece remains unique.
Working with slab-built stoneware vessels, I use a muted palette of slips and glazes to emphasise surface and texture. I experiment with sgraffito, wax resist, paper relief and other mark making techniques, creating rhythmic patterns across each form.
